MGI Guidelines & Responsibilities

CUNY Collaborative Programs (CUNY Central)

CUNY Central is responsible for general management and oversight of CUNY MGI. Other responsibilities include:

  • General program coordination
  • Fiscal oversight
  • Providing training and professional development to MGI and school staff
  • Data management and reporting
  • Program evaluation
  • Website maintenance
  • Special MGI-wide projects

Colleges
City College of New York, Hunter College, Hostos Community College, Lehman College, Queens College

Each MGI partner college has responsibilities as well, including:

  • Providing direct service through school-based team, including the Program Coordinator, tutors, and advisors
  • Supporting the MGI Program Coordinator's administrative needs
  • Managing MGI budgets and monitoring spending
  • Providing requested data and reporting to CUNY Central, generally monthly
  • Evaluating efficacy of project services and MGI staff and planning program services accordingly
  • Facilitating use of campus resources and college involvement at its MGI partner school/s

Program Coordinator

  • Organizes and implements MGI programming at 1-3 schools
  • Oversees part-time MGI staff, including tutors and advisors
  • Provides some form of direct service to students (based on area of expertise)
  • Interfaces regularly with school staff
  • Is responsible for local data collection and management

Tutors

  • Have strong content knowledge in the subject they are tutoring
  • Work approximately 15 hours a week primarily in a class setting and in close collaboration with teachers
  • Facilitate review of student progress with the MGI Program Coordinator and advisor
  • Support students' immediate academic needs
  • Serve as role model for students
  • Receive bi-annual training and monthly professional development from CUNY Central

Advisors

  • Are graduate or post-graduate students in guidance and counseling, social work or psychology
  • Work approximately 15 hours a week
  • Support students' transition to middle school in conjunction with the school's guidance staff
  • Build rapport with students and initiate college awareness activities
  • Facilitate review of student progress with program coordinator and tutors
  • Receive bi-annual training and monthly professional development from CUNY Central
