New York High School Graduation Requirements

To graduate from high school in New York State, you need to earn the number of credits required by your high school and you need to pass certain statewide tests. Please keep in mind that these are the state requirements; your high school may have slightly different standards, so always double check with your teachers or guidance counselor.

Below is a suggested guideline of how many years of each subject a student should complete in order to graduate high school in good standing:

• 4 years of English
• 3 years of Math
• 3 years of Science (with 2 being lab sciences)
• 3–4 years of Social Studies
• 2 years of Foreign Language
• 3 years of Art, Music, or Health
